Sooo many of you have asked me to share Tess’s schedule. I’ve avoided doing it because I worry that you guys will think this is THEE schedule to strive for. Realistically, every mom is different, every baby is different and every AGE of that baby will naturally mean a variation in schedule. You need to do what feels right for your family’s lifestyle and of course make sure you discuss with your pediatrician.
Now that we’ve had a similar schedule for at least 6 months, I can tell you what has worked for us from about age 7-14 months (and counting)
Wake up between 6-7:30 a.m (if she gets up at 6 a.m. it most likely means she went to bed later than usual, later bedtime means earlier wake up. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but trust me and the sleep consultants who have guided me!)
First 30 minutes after wake up. Tess hangs with us in bed, we read books, roll around, snuggle. Obviously there are mornings that she may wake up later, or wake up hungrier and this 30 minutes is non existent, but most mornings we do this!
8:00 a.m. first meal (it was always a bottle or cup of milk, but now we do breakfast first which I started at 1 year old – I don’t really know why besides that I was trying to get her less obsessed with milk since I knew it was potentially adding to her constipation)
Breakfast is usually scrambled eggs with cheese and oatmeal with fruit. Breakfast is her biggest meal. We give her eggs first because otherwise she just wants the oatmeal and fruit – aka anything sweet). We add flax to both the eggs and oatmeal.
8:30-9:15/9:30 a.m. wash up, playtime, milk and story time. After breakfast we wipe her face and hands and brush her teeth. Then she plays in the living room or her bedroom (she chooses). After she plays, we read 2-3 books while she has about 3 ounces of milk in her oxo cup.
9:30-10:45 a.m. nap time (this changes depending on what we have for the day, there are times she needs to be at a class at 10:45 a.m. so we change her schedule either by putting her down for her first nap earlier, or waking her up. I don’t get hung up on this because as long as she has had a good night’s sleep, and some sort of morning nap, she’s ok until her next nap – which we also adjust – we make it earlier if she was woken up earlier from her first nap, or we anticipate a longer second nap. I’ve always felt at ease about this because I think more about the overall amount of sleep she gets per day vs. the time etc.
11:00 a.m. snack either at home or on the go if she has to make it to a class or appointment. This will be fruit and a finger food (usually baked pears and cinnamon, homemade muffin, kiwi, seaweed, bamba, raisins) we also give her juice and miralax at this time. 1.5 teaspoons of miralax, 1 ounce of mango juice and 3 ounces of water.
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. class, playdate, walk to the grocery store
12/12:30 p.m. lunch. Lunch time depends on the morning, if she had an 11:45 a.m. class, then lunch is later and we just adjust this schedule by pushing the rest of the day back slightly…Lunch is usually a grain, vegetable and meat – most often chicken, pesto, banza pasta and spinach.
1:00-3:00 p.m. second nap. Almost always 2 hours, if her morning nap was cut short, this nap is longer than 2 hours.
3:30 p.m. snack. Similar to first snack. Fruit and finger food.
4:00-5:00 p.m. playdate, walk, play time or class
5/5:30 p.m. Dinner and playtime with Mama and Dada. From 5 p.m. until bedtime my husband and I always try to be home. Its our time the three of us.
6:15 p.m. Bath
7:00 p.m. Milk, story, wash up, bedtime.
7:30/7:45 p.m. By the time she gets into her crib, its usually a few minutes after 7 p.m. and Tess sometimes babbles, rolls around, etc so she isn’t asleep until about 7:30-7:45 p.m. and that’s when I officially see a sleeping baby on the monitor.
